Spring is almost here, and with it, the prospect of sunny, warm days, punctuated by soft breezes, the smell of blooming flowers, the chirping of birds, and ice cream cones. The other thing that spring brings is the ability to enjoy the many wonderful outdoor activities that Cape Cod has to offer, including mini-golf.

For families who have been cooped up all winter, friends who just want to get together for a friendly game, or a couple who are sick of date night being dinner-and-a-movie, the opening of the many mini-golf areas on Cape Cod will come as quite the relief.

So which mini-golf spot should you go to? Here are some fantastic choices.

  1. Pirate’s Cove, South Yarmouth: This is one of the most popular mini-golf spots on Cape Cod and for good reason. It is located right on Route 28, so it is easy to find and the decorations are a lot of fun, especially for swashbucklers-in-training who want a taste of life on the high seas without all the sea-sickness and scurvy. Kids and parents are sure to have a blast putt-putting the day away. Pirate’s Cove has a season that runs from early April to October.

  2. Harbor Lights Mini Golf, Brewster: This course, located on Underpass Road, got a makeover recently and is a delightful gem, tucked away in Brewster. They open for the season on May 3rd in 2014.

  3. Mini Golf at the Drive-In, Wellfleet: For families who want to pack a bit more into their mini-golf experience, try the 18-hole course at the Wellfleet Drive-In. Not only can visitors play mini-golf, but they can also check out the Flea Market (open Saturdays and Sundays in-season), go see a movie at the cinema (or at the drive-in depending on the time of day), and get ice cream! It’s an exciting, fun-packed experience that is sure to delight.

  4. Cape Escape, Orleans: Another very popular course, the Cape Escape mini-golf site in Orleans is loads of fun for young and old alike. Not only is this mini-golf area a good time, but it is also near lots of great restaurants, ice cream shops, and beaches, so it is perfect for a stop during the afternoon, or a nightcap!

  5. Sandwich Mini Golf, Sandwich: Located on Route 6A and centered around the Cranberry River, this mini-golf course features many islands and bridges for everyone to test their putting skills on.

  6. Poit’s Lighthouse Mini Golf, Eastham: The feeling of being on Cape Cod is strong at this wonderful, nautical themed mini golf course. While the site has been in operation since 1954, there have been changes made (all for the better!). The area features an 18-hole course, a video arcade, and a snack bar with hotdogs, burgers, and other essentials for a fun and easygoing day. Best of all, the area is right off of the bike trail in Eastham, so stop by after a bit of cycling to unwind!

  7. Cataumet Light Mini Golf, Cataumet: Fantastic for folks on the Upper Cape, the Cataumet Light Mini Golf course is wickedly enjoyable! Not only is this course – which bills itself as “quiet and peaceful” – a true gem to play through, but there are plenty of extras, including Lazy Sundaes Ice Cream (cash only, FYI), a batting cage, and bumper boats! Stop by if “fun” is on your itinerary.

  8. Skull Island Adventure Golf, Yarmouth: Part of the Bass River Sports World complex, Skull Island Adventure Golf can be enjoyed as a lone activity or along with a myriad of other enjoyable pastimes, including sports cages, a driving range, go karts, and a video arcade. So come and enjoy the mini golf and perhaps a few other favorite activities.

  9. Mini Golf at the Gift Barn, Eastham: Open for over 35 seasons, the mini golf area at the Gift Barn in Eastham is certainly well-established. The two-tiered course is challenging, enjoyable, and a great deal ($3.50 per person for all ages, $1.75 per person for replays).   10. Mini Golf at Arnold’s, Eastham: Not only is there a great 18-hole mini golf course here, but it’s right next to a clam bar, so lovers of seafood can delight in that as well! The course is decorated with whimsy and afterwards, there is ice cream to indulge in as well. This is a fantastic stop for the whole family!
